El Dorado dropped a pair of games over the holiday weekend while competing in the Pulaski Academy Thanksgiving Tournament. The Lady Wildcats fell to Forrest City 54-38 on Friday. On Saturday, El Dorado lost to Pulaski Academy 65-55.

Forrest City jumped out to a 10-3 lead on Friday and was up 26-11 at the half.

“We missed 26 lay-ups in that whole game. We missed 26 lay-ups and 19 free throws. That’s the story of the game,” said El Dorado coach Destinee Rogers.

Jessica Morton led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Brea Clark and Grace Murry scored six and five, respectively. Diamond Hawthorne had seven rebounds and Murry added two steals.

The Lady Wildcats played better against Pulaski Academy, which led 19-11 after one quarter and 30-26 at the half. El Dorado had closed the gap to 41-38 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Lady Wildcats missed 21 lay-ups and 14 free throws against Pulaski Academy.

“We played a lot harder, still missed way too many lay-ups. I thought we played a lot harder. We’re not finishing,” said Rogers. “I like our effort and I like how hard we’re playing. We’re getting to the rim when we want to and making things happen. Now, it’s a matter of, we’ve got to finish. When we get fouled, we’ve got to make our free throws. It stinks to come up here and drop two games. The most positive thing about it is, it’s all fixable. You can get fix missing lay-ups. You can fix missing free throws. We’re going to go back to practice on Monday and we’ve got some things to work on.”

Murry led the way with 15 points, four assists and two steals. Morton added 11 with nine boards. Adrianne Larry scored nine and Hawthorne contributed seven points and seven rebounds.

El Dorado fell to 2-2 on the season. The Lady Wildcats will host DeQueen next Friday.

“They’re a team similar to PA,” said Rogers. “Bottom line is, we’ve got to get back to us. We’ve got to finish. We’ve got to finish our lay-ups. We’ve got to make our free throws. When we do that, we’ll start winning a lot of ball games.

“We can be a good team. We’ve got some young pieces. We have some that just have to get some game experience. We’re going to learn early. Toward the end of the year, we’ll be a different team, for sure. I like what I see. We just have little things we have to fix. When we tie up those loose ends, we’re going to be pretty good.”
