El Dorado defeats Magnolia 6-1 in spring break tournament championship

The El Dorado Wildcats defeated the Magnolia Panthers 6-1 Saturday night to claim the championship of the 7th annual Magnolia Ballin-n The Break baseball tournament.

The game was a scoreless tie until the 5th inning when the Wildcats scored four runs on four hits and were aided by two Panthers errors.

The Wildcats added two insurance runs in the top of the 7th. The lone Panthers run came in the bottom of the 7th as Halen Sanders scored on a fielder’s choice.

Sanders led the Panthers at the plate with two hits. Dayton Dickson, Kyle Carver and Garrett Clark each had one hit for the Panthers.

Adam Pieratt was the hard luck loser for the Panthers on the mound. He allowed four runs, three earned, in 4 and 1/3 innings of work. He struck out five, walked one and allowed six hits. Payton Campbell finished with 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, striking out one, walking two and allowing two hits.

Magnolia was represented on the All-Tournament team by Connor Harrington, Kevin Zhao and Campbell.

Magnolia is now 8-3 for the season. The Panthers return to conference action Tuesday in Camden against Camden Fairview. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
