Arkansas High fell to El Dorado at Lady Back Field in a Conference 6A match, 14-11.
"I told our girls after the game that they did a great job of battling back," Arkansas High head softball coach Elizabeth Tankersley said. "We just have to stop the bleeding early in the game. It's huge for us to battle back and make the game
close like that."
AHS trailed the Lady Wildcats, 10-0, after the second inning. All of the El Dorado hitters scored in the second inning.
Lady Back slugger Adison Wright hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, to put AHS on the scoreboard. Wright led AHS at the plate going 2 for 5 with a home run, single and 5 RBI.
"Adison's home run put us back in it," Tankersley said. "Hitting is contagious, you get one hit and the rest will come."
Jordan Standley drove in two runs in the fourth inning to cut into the Lady Wildcat lead. Standley finished her night going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Aja Cheatham was called upon in relief for AHS in the fifth inning, Cheatham pitched three innings, struck out four and gave up three runs.
"The thing I'm most proud of today is Aja Cheatham's performance in the circle for us," Tankersley said. "She came and gave Kaitlyn (Fortenberry) some relief, she got a little rattled there in the middle innings."
Fortenberry also singled twice and stole three bases for AHS.
The Lady Backs cut into the El Dorado lead until the final out, coming up short in the seventh.
"I've said since the beginning of the year that they're resilient," Tankersley said. "We preach everyday about not quitting. It got a little quiet after we got down but they picked each other.... Click here to read full article
